Through February 28, 2014
February is Dental Health Month. Good dental health is important to maintaining good health. Bacteria in the mouth cause gingivitis (red, inflamed gums), plaque, tartar, and periodontal disease (tooth decay). Bacteria can also enter the bloodstream through the gums and travel to other parts of the body. This can result in problems such as kidney disease, liver disease, and heart disease.
Prevention is the best medicine. Our fourlegged family members need regular dental care, just like our twolegged family. Home care (such as brushing or dental foods) and professional dental cleaning will help healthy teeth keep their sparkle. For patients with periodontal disease, extraction may be the best route to restore mouths to good health.
